The Thomas C. Ober Carpenters Training Center is located 30 miles northwest of Atlantic City in Mullica Township. The 10 acre site at 3300 White Horse Pike was purchased by the NJCATEF in 1990 with the official ground breaking for the original 24,000 square foot facility taking place on October 11th, 1990. In 1998 a 6000 square foot addition was completed to accommodate the increase in journey level skill enhancement courses. Since the addition was built, 6000 square feet of mezzanine has been added to increase the training area to 36,000 square feet. The center is utilized for training by 6 commercial construction locals, Housing Local 1578 and Mill Shop and Specialty Local 2098. On June 15th, 1991 with the construction completed, the training center in Mullica Township was dedicated as the Thomas C. Ober Carpenters training Center. At the dedication, then Governor Florio praised Tom Ober for his 30 years of union leadership and strong support for progressive state policies. He praised the carpenters for their forward thinking and excellent training programs. Thomas C. Ober has been a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters for over forty five years. Tom worked as a carpenter, millwright and superintendent prior to election as Business Manager of Local #393 in 1960. Tom said "As Manager of the New Jersey Carpenters Apprentice Training Fund my objective is to honor our commitment to our apprentices and journey level members by furnishing them with the training and skills they will need to provide for themselves and their families. As a result of that commitment we will continue to produce the most qualified apprentices and journey level workers we can, to the contractors who utilize our members. In addition to their concentrated training we must assist our members further by providing them with the training necessary to enhance their skills in order to continue to make a living in the constantly changing construction industry."
