Course Number: WE101
Part 1 - Safety for Welders
Course Description: This course will inform the beginner and reinforce the experienced welder with the proper safety necessary for safe operation of cutting and welding equipment. This course will outline the proper clothing and equipment to assure safe procedures. This course is required prior to all cutting and/or welding classes.
Prerequisite: None.
Course Length: 16 hours.

Course Number: WE102
Part 2 - Basic Welding
Course Description: This course is designed for the beginner welder and covers arc welding (stick). Includes class discussion on theory, review of safety and practical uses of welding.
E 60 electrodes will be used. Course will include flat and horizontal welding with various joints and joint preparations.
Prerequisite: None.
Course Length: 32 hours (8 - 4 hour nights)

Course Number WE 103
Part 3 - Advanced Welding
Course Description: This course covers some additional theory with greater emphasis placed on out-of-position carbon steel welding with the shielded-metal arc process. E-6010, E-6013 and E-7018 electrodes will be used exclusively. Various joints and joint preparations will also be covered.
Prerequisite: Successful completion of Part 1 and Part 2.
Course Length: 40 hours. (10 - 4 hour nights )

Part 3a - Metal Stud S.M.A.W.** Optional
Course Description: This course is designed to assist the commercial carpenter in welded construction using metal studs. Some theory is included with greater emphasis placed on out of position welding of galvanized metal studs. Light gauge (18 Ga.) and heavy gauge (12 Ga.) studs to light and heavy gauge studs and plate welding will be covered using the shielded metal ark process.
Prerequisite: Successful completion of Part 1, 2 & 3
Course Length: 20 hours.

Course Number WE201
Part 4 - Pre-Certification
Course Description: This course is offered for the advanced out-of-position welder to practice technique designed to help pass the A.W.S. certification test for limited thickness carbon steel in all positions. Weld coupons for testing will be available in the shop.

The procedures, standards and qualifications of Welder Certification Testing are in accordance with the American Welding Society, Structural Welding and Sheet Metal
Codes D1.1.

The tests being offered are the 5.19 Groove Weld Plate Qualification Test for a plate of limited thickness in all positions and the Metal Stud-light and heavy gauge certification tests.

Part 5 - Certification
Based on the recommendations of the welding instructors individuals will be scheduled to practice and test on certain Saturdays during each month.

*** The only course that can be applied for is: WE101, Part I - Safety for Welders which is required for anyone wishing to learn welding. Once the Welding Safety class is completed (100% participation required) the student will be scheduled into the remaining classes by the office staff person responsible for setting up the skill enhancement courses. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Pre-Certification and Certification Testing will only be offered to those welders that completed the welding and/or that have demonstrated the competency to pass the certification testing.

Participants will receive a certificate of completion for each part of the welding program successfully completed.
