Part 1
Basic Cabinet and Casework/Plastic Laminate
Course Number: IF201
Course Description: This course is designed to teach basic skills in cabinet making. There will be a hand and power tool review then the focus will be on making cutting lists, cutting material, and the machining and construction of simple cabinets. Drawer and door construction will also be included.
Prerequisites: Completion of basic tool safety (included in course). Experience with the table saw and basic power tools.
Course Length: 24 hours.
Part 2
Basic Cabinet and Casework/Plastic Laminate
Course Number: IF202
Course Description: This course is designed to teach skills using laminate plastics and will be on cutting, gluing trimming, filing and bending laminate plastic material. A small countertop will be constructed by each participant.
Prerequisites: Proficiency with table saw, hand tools, and routers.
Course Length: 12 hours.
Solid Surface
Course Number: IF301
Course Description: This course presents installation procedures for solid materials. The focus will be on the special features of solid surface material, such as high strength seams, cutting, sanding thick edges, finishing and installation. Participants completing the course will receive a IBC "Certified Solid Surface Installer" card, recognized by manufacturers of Avonite, Corian, Gibralter, and Surell.
Prerequisites: Individual must demonstrate proficiency with counter layout and construction and the power hand tools such as the router and sander.
Course Length: 12 hours. 1 - 4 hour night and 1 - 8 hour Saturday.
Part 1
Moldings - Standing and Running Trim
Course Number: IF105
Course Description: This course is designed for carpenters with little or no trim carpentry experience. The cutting and installation of door and window casing, base, shoe and chair rail is included. Proper selection and use of various trim tools will be discussed and demonstrated. Includes cutting and shaping of flat miters. "Hands on" allows time for demonstration and practice of vertical miters and coped joints.
Course Length: 24 hours.
Part 2
Moldings - Advance
Course Number: IF106
Course Description: The second part of the course will continue with the addition of window stools and discussions on common problems encountered in interior trim and solutions to those problems.
Course Length: 24 hours.
Participants are urged to complete both parts of this course. Participants will receive a certificate for each section successfully completed.
Part 1
Ceiling Systems - Exposed Grid - Basic
Course Number: CS101
Course Description: This course presents basic theory, layout and installation of acoustical ceilings, focusing primarily on 2 ft. by 2 ft. and 2 ft. by 4 ft. exposed grid ceilings. Ceilings will be leveled using laser technology. Reading prints for ceiling systems information will also be discussed.
Part 2
Ceiling Systems - Exposed Grid - Advanced
Course Number: CS102
Course Description: As a continuation of CS101 the participant will install non standard ceilings such as diagonal and drops.
Course Length for both parts: 24 hours.
Participants are urged to take Parts 1 and 2. Participants will receive a certificate of completion for each part successfully completed.
Basic Drywall Finishing
Course Number: DF101
Course Description: The participant will be introduced to the tools and theory of drywall finishing. They will be taught the basics of drywall finishing which includes nail spotting and application of the first coat of spackle.
Course Length : 16 hours.
Advanced Drywall Finishing
Course Number: DF102
Course Description: This class picks up where DF101 leaves off. The participant will be taught how to prepare for the second and third coats of spackle.
Course Length : 24 hours.
Drywall Finishing Using Automatic Tools
Course Number: DF103
Course Description: This class will offer the experienced taper the opportunity to learn the use of the automatic tools utilized in drywall finishing. Participants must have completed DF101 and DF102 or qualified through evaluation prior to taking this course.
Course Length: 24 hours.
Stairs
Course Number: GE102 (Part 1 & 2)
Part 1
Course Description: This course presents basic theory, calculations, code requirements, safety, proper layout, cutting and assembly for open and closed stringer stairs. Length of stairwell openings will also be discussed.
Part 2
Course Description: A continuation of Part 1. The participant will layout and build various forms for freestanding and supported concrete stairs.
Part 1 and Part 2 Course Length: 24 hours.
Participants are urged to complete both Parts 1 and 2 but must complete Part 1 prior to taking Part 2. Participants will receive a certificate of completion for each part successfully completed.
