Course Number: IF102
The United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Ingersoll Rand have developed the Certified Hardware Installer Program. The program consists of 5 parts. The final part of the program is a certification class where participants must correctly install and adjust 17 individual commercial hardware items from the Ingersoll-Rand family of locks, closers, holders, and exit devices. The six 4-hour modules must be satisfactorily completed before the U.B.C./Ingersoll-Rand Certified Install Card will be issued.
In order to take the course the Journey Level Carpenters must successfully complete all parts in a series of courses. Anyone signing up for IF 102 will automatically be scheduled (unless they request) for each succeeding part as they successfully complete each part. These courses are all required for the Carpenter that anticipates continuing on to the Certified Hardware Installers Program.
Part 1 - Theory of Doors, Frame and Hardware
Course Description: This course covers the subject of doors, frames and hardware from many different directions, including print reading, specifications, AWI standards, shop drawings, door and jamb detailing, and door and hardware schedules. Residential and commercial doors and jambs, several types of operations hardware, finishes and handling will be discussed. This is a theory class only and prepares the individual for the door hanging class.
Participants will receive a certification of completion

Course Length: Total 21 hrs.
Part 2 - Door Hanging
Course Description: This part of the course covers the complete installation of interior doors in wood and metal frames. Shop project include hands on experience installing hardware such as butt hinges, mortise locks, key-in-knob locks and door checks. The use of power planers, lock mortiders and routers for hinge butt mortises using guides is included. Each participant will also layout, prepare and install a closer and panic device.
Part 3 - Door Hanging
Course Description: This part of the course will present the installation; adjustment and troubleshooting for lock sets, closers and panic devices. Participants will perform the installations and repairs using manufacturers specifications.
Part 2 & Part 3 - Course Length: Total 28 hrs.
Participants will receive a certificate of completion for each part successfully completed.
Part 4 - Prep Class
Course Description: This class is intended for commercially experienced door and hardware Journey Level carpenters only. It reviews various aspects of architectural hardware and pretests the participants prior to participation in the Ingersoll-Rand Certified Installer class. An examination is given at the end of the class.
Note: Prep Class is a review and pretest class only.
Course Length: 1 Evening - Total 4 hrs.
Part 5 - Ingersoll-Rand Certified Installer Class
Course Description: This is the 24 hour certification class where participants must correctly install and adjust 17 individual commercial hardware items from the Ingersoll-Rand family of locks, closers, holders, and exit devices. The six 4-hour modules must be satisfactorily completed before the U.B.C./Ingersoll-Rand Certified Installer Card will be issued.
Course Length: Total 24 hrs. (6 nights - 4 hrs. each night).
Maximum: 10 participants per class.
Prerequisite: Successful completion of: Part 1, 2, 3, and 4 of the Ingersoll-Rand Certified Installer Program. Participants will receive a certificate of completion for each part successfully completed.
